This year’s Annual School Concert, titled “The Joys of Spring”, took place on 10 April at the College Theatre of HKU SPACE Community College. The concert was a vibrant success with over 300 attendees. The concert commenced with a fabulous performance by piano virtuoso and guest lecturer Huang Naiwei, who enchanted the audience with classic pieces like “Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence” and “Swanee”. Following this, Ms Natalie Ho, an alumna of HKU SPACE and a member of the emerging girl group STRAYZ, brought a fresh breeze with pop songs such as “Byebye Byebye Byebye Byebye…” and “You Gotta Screw Up At Least Once”. The stage then welcomed Ma Wai-him (Didaboy), principal suona and guan player of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, collaborating with guitarist Ron Ng and bass player Vinc Chan to present captivating performances of “Sing sing sing” and “Spain”, showcasing their virtuosity and innovative musical blends, leaving the audience awestruck. Cal and Zoe then took the stage with an energetic tap dance performance that not only enthralled with its rhythm but also engaged the audience, filling the auditorium with applause, laughter, and rhythmic footsteps. In the grand finale, School teacher Lokin, accompanied by amazing talents such as Him J, Hoini, and DJ SuenNam, introduced elements of hip-hop dance to the audience through dynamic performances set to hiphop beats. They invited the audience to join in the hip-hop dance and DJing, concluding the concert on a high note. The success of the concert was a result of the stellar performances by the guests, teachers, and alumni, as well as the generous support of the title sponsor, Mr William Au Weng-hei, SBS, JP, and other sponsors. All proceeds raised will be directed towards the HKU SPACE bursaries to aid financially disadvantaged full-time students. 09
