As of 30 June 2025, the total sta strength stood at around 940 full-time and 2,100 part-time employees. As far as full-time sta is concerned, the year saw a sta turnover rate of 16.7% which was lower than that in 2023/24 at 22.8%. Consistent with past trends and the local employment market, the junior support grades continued to register the highest turnover rates. Despite the continued drop in the sta turnover rate this year, retention of sta has remained challenging which calls for continued close monitoring. The annual Long Service Award Ceremony was held in June 2025 on which occasion 69 staff members received 10, 15, 20 or 25 years’ service awards from the Chairman of our Board of Directors and the Director in recognition of their devoted and loyal services. Indeed, this year we had the irst batch of colleagues receiving a 25-year long service award since the School was incorporated as a separate legal entity from HKU in 1999. The School implemented a Continuing Personal/Professional Development (CPD) scheme in 2008, which encourages all staff to participate in CPD activities, including but not limited to attending/ presenting at conferences and workshops, studying short courses/ award-bearing programmes. In 2024/25, 373 staff were eligible for CPD awards having completed over 20 or 30 hours of CPD activity. The School also offers inancial support to staff pursuing higher quali ications such as Masters and Doctoral degrees. Obituary The School mourns the passing of Professor Wong Siu Lun, Professor Emeritus of Sociology and former Pro-Vice-Chancellor of HKU. He was Acting Director of the School from 1996 to 1997, becoming a member of the HKU SPACE Management Board from 1998 and Chairman from 1999. He was then the irst Chairman of the Company Board from 19992000.
