HKU SPACE has offered full-time programmes leading to sub-degree awards - Associate Degree, and Higher Diploma since the year 2000 when the School established the first Community College in Hong Kong. Sub-degree education provides an alternative study pathway for those secondary school graduates who could not enter university. Sub-degree graduates can have a second chance to continue their studies in a tertiary institution or start their career after graduation. In 2003, the School established the International College (formerly Centre for International Degree Programmes) to provide full-time top-up degrees for those Community College graduates who would like to pursue a bachelor degree awarded by public universities in the UK and Australia.
