HKU SPACE

003 William K. M. Lee 李經文 Director 院長 Message from the Director 院長序言 The University’s Strategic Plan for 2026 to 2035 maintains its commitment to developing and extending lifelong learning opportunities to the wider community and the School will strive to fulfill this commitment. It is dedicated to excellence in teaching, learning, innovation, and social responsibility. Building on previous strategic efforts, the School is ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities brought by rapid technological advancements, particularly generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI), and the evolving needs of society. The School’s 2025-2030 Strategic Plan, released in July 2025, outlines seven directions—including technology, GBA development, internationalisation, and more—to drive continued educational excellence. The School has enhanced its curricula to incorporate AI-related content, now offering nearly 60 courses in AI. It was honoured to have received the "e-brand Awards 2025 – Best AI Education Institution" from e-zone, a reputable digital media platform of the Hong Kong Economic Times Group. This accolade acknowledges the School’s exceptional accomplishments and leadership in the field of AI education. The recognition is closely aligned with our strategic direction of “Embracing Technology,” and represents an important milestone for HKU SPACE in promoting excellence and innovation within AI education. In addition, the School has once again been honored with the “Recognised Organisation” award at the UNSDG Achievement Awards Hong Kong 2025, hosted by the Green Council. This achievement reflects our unwavering commitment to “ESG: Committing to Corporate Citizenship”—a key strategic direction of our 2025-30 Strategic Plan. As we move forward, we will promote sustainable practices, foster a culture of respect and inclusivity, and ensure good governance and transparency. Our Community College has reached a new high in full-time enrolment, with over 13,000 students currently enrolled. Our joint venture with Po Leung Kuk, HPSHCC, has an enrolment of 3,000 students, resulting in a combined total of 16,000 students. This makes HKU SPACE the largest provider of sub-degree programmes in Hong Kong. Facilities within the Kowloon Bay Cluster have been expanded to support student development. Alongside our local initiatives, HKU SPACE is also expanding its footprint in the Chinese Mainland. We have established a partnership with the School of Continuing Education of Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) for the Diploma in Foundation Studies (E-learning mode) programme. The Inauguration Ceremony for the programme was held in September 2025, at the Zhihui Port in Taicang, near Shanghai, marking a significant milestone in educational collaboration, and facilitating articulation to HKU SPACE subdegree programmes. To support varied learning needs in the GBA, the School is launching fulltime Postgraduate Diploma (PgD) programmes as well as workshops, seminars, and online courses for participants from Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland. These initiatives blend local and global perspectives to help participants grow professionally and improve their lives. The first full-time PgD cohort will begin in January 2026. In line with our efforts to enhance student experience, the School launched the HKU SPACE Chatbot on the website and mobile app in November 2025. The digital assistant offers immediate responses to questions regarding programmes and events. Utilising generative AI, the Chatbot facilitates communication and allows users to access information at any time, aligning with efforts to integrate technology and enhance usability. On the international front, we have partnered with Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore and renewed our agreements with Manchester Metropolitan University and Ulster University, reinforcing our commitment to academic collaboration. This Spring 2026 Prospectus contains many new and interesting programme developments, and I hope that readers will find courses that inspire them and meet their lifelong learning needs.
