This programme aims to develop the skills of students in business communication and public speaking through theatre-based activities and role plays. It offers an innovative approach to achieve holistic communication through the use of physical body movement, language use and voice control. The programme is designed to be hands-on and experiential, offering ample opportunity for students to practice and apply what they learn. At the end of the programme, students will have developed enhanced self-confidence in public speaking as well as improved ability to communicate effectively. INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES On completion of the programme, students should be able to 1 identify the challenges and opportunities of public speaking and business communication, 2. improve self-awareness, body language and voice through techniques used in theatre and stage training, 3. manage unexpected scenarios when speaking to an audience through techniques used by performing artists, 4. engage and connect with the audience in a persuasive manner. Applicants shall: (A) have gained in the HKDSE Examination Level 2 in 5 subjects including English Language; OR (B) (i) have gained in HKCEE Grade E in 4 subjects and Level 2 in English Language and (ii) one A-level pass or two AS-level passes in any subject or other equivalent; Applicants who are aged 21 and above with at least 3 years work experience will be considered on individual merit. No.: 24/000106/L4) Validity Period: 01 Dec 2023 - on-going Certificate for Module (Enhancing Charisma and Social Influence Skills Through Techniques of Performing Arts) Programme Code: MS159A Application Code: 2375-MS159A 2910 7610 bes@hkuspace.hku.hk The objective of this programme is to facilitate students to discover their “inner self”, build their charisma and improve their social influence skills. The programme will equip students with the knowledge and skills to be more proactive, expressive and self-confident. It also covers areas like learning to lead instead of follow, coping with stress, and exploring ways to relax and regain energy. The programme takes a practical approach by employing hands-on techniques including role plays, group discussions and exercises adapted from those utilised to train performing artists. These methods are specifically designed to enhance students’ self-confidence, charismatic, expressiveness and influence. Applicants shall: (A) have gained in the HKDSE Examination Level 2 in 5 subjects including English Language; OR (B) (i) have gained in HKCEE Grade E in 4 subjects and Level 2 in English Language and (ii) one A-level pass or two AS-level passes in any subject or equivalent; Applicants who are aged 21 and above with at least 3 years work experience will be considered on individual merit. Applicants shall hold a bachelor’s degree awarded by a recognised institution. If the degree or equivalent qualification is from an institution where the language of teaching and assessment is not English, applicants shall provide evidence of English proficiency, such as: i. an overall band of 6.0 or above with no subtests lower than 5.5 in IELTS; or ii. a score of 550 or above in the paper-based TOEFL, or a score of 213 or above in the computer-based TOEFL, or a score of 80 or above in the internet-based TOEFL; or iii. HKALE Use of English at Grade E or above; or iv. HKDSE Examination English Language at Level 3 or above; or v. equivalent qualifications. Applicants who hold a recognised professional qualification in a relevant discipline and three years of full-time work experience at senior managerial level in related industries will be considered case by case.
