HKU SPACE

003 William K. M. Lee 李經文 Director 院長 Message from the Director 院長序言 Welcome to the Autumn 2026 Prospectus. This year has brought important developments with implications for our strategic directions. “Contributing to Human Capital Development in the Greater Bay Area (GBA)” is one important direction of the School’s Strategic Plan for 2025-2030. To meet the diverse learning needs of individuals in the GBA, HKU SPACE has launched a series of one-year full-time Postgraduate Diploma (PgD) programmes tailored for students from the Chinese Mainland. In January 2026, the School hosted the Inauguration Ceremony in HKU with over 80 students enrolled in the first cohort of 5 PgD programmes, marking a new chapter in the School's academic development for the Chinese Mainland. 19 PgD programmes spanning five major fields are planned to launch in 2026/27. Building on the success of the inaugural GBA Education Conference in 2024, the second Conference, co-hosted by the School of Continuing Education of Sun Yat-sen University (SYNU), was successfully held on 14 May 2026 at the historic SYNU Guangzhou campus. In addition, a field trip from 13 to 15 May 2026 was conducted to visit prominent enterprises in Guangzhou, including companies from environmental technology, biomedical innovation, and advanced manufacturing. The School also visited the new SYNU Guangming campus to discuss further collaboration to broaden our impact and engage more lifelong learning practitioners. Another important breakthrough involves the establishment of official accounts on the popular Chinese Mainland social media platforms Xiaohongshu (XHS) and WeChat by the end of 2025, creating direct interactive platforms for the School with potential students in the GBA. Preparation for the introduction of the reformed Post-Secondary College Ordinance (Cap. 320) continues. The School anticipates that the formal accreditation exercise will take place in the summer of 2027. HKU SPACE continues to advance its AI development through a structured roadmap integrating AI into teaching, learning, and operations. Reflecting this strategic focus, the second Community College Academic Conference was held on 5 June 2026 at the Kowloon East Campus under the theme AI and Higher Education. The Conference featured over 30 panel discussions, a book exhibition, demonstrations by the HKU SPACE ELearning Team, and student poster presentations. In addition, the School is developing its guidelines on the use of Gen AI which will be made available as soon as possible. Internationalisation is a key focus of the School’s Strategic Plan. We continue to build on our more than 60-year partnership with the University of London, especially the Laws Programme. The Economics, Management, Finance and the Social Sciences Programmes (EMFSS), with academic direction provided by the London School of Economics and Political Science, have been ranked first in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide for two consecutive years. Moreover, our students achieved outstanding results in 2025-26. Our longstanding collaboration with Charles Sturt University has also gained global recognition, with its Information Studies programmes ranked among the world’s top 100. In addition, we are pleased to have established a new partnership with Queen’s University in Canada. HKU SPACE has been awarded the “Sing Tao Service Brand Award – Best Continuing Education Institution” for the 19th consecutive year. The School was also honoured for the second year in a row with the “Articulation Degree and Continuing Education Institution” award, receiving two major accolades. These awards further consolidate our leading position in the local continuing education sector. We also remain active with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Our Microcredential series goes from strength to strength with over 480 Microcredential courses on offer, generally of 6, 9 or 12 QF credits. Over 5,000 students enrolled in these courses in 2025/26 and more courses will be available in 2026/27. Most are eligible for Continuing Education Fund (CEF) support. Overall, 2026 has been a remarkable year filled with accomplishments. I trust that readers will discover courses in this 2026 Autumn Prospectus that suit their professional growth, ongoing education goals, or lifelong learning ambitions throughout the remainder of this year and into 2027.
