It is a way of communicating an idea in a manner that is compelling and convincing to readers. Writers use techniques such as evidence-based arguments, emotional appeals, and conversational tone to persuade readers to decide in favour of the writer’s position. Persuasive writing is often used in marketing, advertising, public relations, fundraising, and other business communications where the writer wants to influence the readers’ opinion or behaviour. This 18-hour short course will enlighten students’ understanding of the discourse structures and word choice in persuasive business writing. Applicants shall: • hold a Certificate in Advanced Business English or above awarded within the HKU system through HKU SPACE; or • Cambridge Linguaskill General / Business test score 160 or above. * Equivalent qualifications will be considered on individual merit.
