In order to gain one of these masters degree awards, students must complete a total of six taught courses and one dissertation in their respective specialisation. They are intended to provide knowledge in identifying workplace hazards and developing professional skills for effective decision making on appropriate means of control. Applicants are expected to possess a bachelor’s degree in the physical science discipline awarded by a recognized university. Applicants who are members of an appropriate professional body and have appropriate professional experience may also be considered on an individual basis. All applicants will be expected to demonstrate a proficiency in English such as IELTS with a minimum average score of 6.0 or TOEFL with a minimum score of 550; applicants who do not satisfy the minimum English proficiency requirement may be required to attend an interview or take an English enhancement course. The programme is an approved top up course in meeting the academic requirements for the Corporate Membership in the Building Discipline of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE)*. The programme is designed for part-time study of around 6 months. Classes will normally be scheduled for two weeknights per week, from 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.. In addition to normal lectures, there are non-lecture activities such as laboratory sessions that may be scheduled on weekends. Applicants shall a) (i) hold a degree or equivalent in an appropriate subject, for example construction, transport, logistics or healthcare; or (ii) hold appropriate professional qualifications, for example the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) Diploma, or registered safety officer recognized by the HKSAR, or equivalent, with professional experience in the occupational safety and health (OSH) field; and b) provide evidence of English proficiency such as IELTS with a minimum score of 6.0 or TOEFL with a minimum score of 550, or equivalent. Applicants, who do not satisfy the minimum English proficiency requirement, may be required to attend an interview or take an English enhancement course. Note: 1. Applicants are normally required to have at least 3 years of professional work experience, e.g. construction, transport, logistics or healthcare.
