Practical exercises will be a key component of the SPACE Speechmakers Club. Each session provides hands-on opportunities for participants to apply the concepts learned in their previous public speaking and presentation skills training into practice on an ongoing basis. All applicants shall have: - completed the Advanced Public Speaking and Presentation course at HKU SPACE; or - completed no less than 30 hours' advanced public speaking training. *Equivalent qualifications will be considered on individual merit. Lessons focus on strategies for writing clearly and concisely, which include emphasising active verbs, avoiding nominalisations and using lists where appropriate. Students will also be guided on how to plan and produce reader-friendly documents. The teacher will make use of authentic samples to critique writing impact and effectiveness in selected contexts. Applicants should have a Secondary school level of English language proficiency or equivalent. This ability can be used to gain advantage either at work or in social situations. Debate motions will be based on a wide range of current social issues, including some fun topics. Note: All applicants who are below age 18 MUST complete and submit the Parent/ Guardian Consent Form’ together with the Enrollment Form HK$3,300 10 weeks English Learning English through Wing Chun Martial Arts Programme Code: GENG9129 S 2975 5880 jenna.ho@hkuspace.hku.hk Wing Chun (Chinese: 詠春 or 咏春 ) is a concept-based martial art popular in the southern China area. Learning Wing Chun became popular again in Hong Kong and worldwide due to the famous martial art master Bruce Lee and the success of the Ip Man series movies in the Chinese community. Many Wing Chun Masters were Chinese speakers, and very few teach Wing Chun in other languages. - 18 years old or above Hong Kong residents. - Applicants of 16 to 18 years old should obtain consent from their parents before applying for the course. - A Hong Kong-registered General Practitioner’s certificate may be required to support the applicant’s suitability for a Wing Chun class. The course helps learners improve their listening and speaking skills, expand their vocabulary range, and gain insights into the culture associated with the target language which they aspire to master. The course presents excellent opportunities for repetition and practice – the basic building blocks in language learning but often boring in conventional classroom settings.
