The National Security Law took effect at 11 pm on 30 June 2020 upon gazettal in the HKSAR. The National Security Law has 6 chapters and 66 articles, which criminalise four types of acts: secession, subversion, terrorist activities, and collusion with a foreign country or with external elements to endanger national security. This course aims to provide an accurate understanding of the relationship between the National Security Law and the Basic Law as well as the enforcement mechanisms to safeguard national security. There are no specific entry requirements, but students should have competence in English language given the language of instruction. HK$800 4 hours English Introduction to Space Law and Policy (Online) Programme Code: COML9116 S 2520 4665 studylaw@hkuspace.hku.hk The main objective of this online course is to examine the role of international law in the regulation of outer space activities, particularly with the rapid commercialisation of outer space, and the increase in the number of state and non-state participants in outer space activities. The course will explore a variety of topics including the regulation of the use of outer space for peaceful (and non-peaceful) purposes, review the international legal framework governing space activities, exploitation of space natural resources, liability for damage caused by space activities, and legal ramifications of military and security activities in outer space.
