The course will offer students a first taste of Dutch, focusing on oral communication, basic grammar and lexicon. The students will practise the language in an interactive class environment, whilst at the same time learning a little about the culture of the Netherlands and other Dutch-speaking countries. The course is not exam-based. Why Dutch? - Dutch is a West Germanic language like English, which is comparatively an easy language to learn; - Dutch is a national language in the Netherlands, Belgium, Suriname and the Dutch Antilles with over 22 million native speakers around the world; - Not only can you find the renowned Heineken in Amsterdam, but there is a wide range of delicacies in the Dutch-speaking countries; - Holland has been one of the top 10 happiest countries for over ten years; - The Netherlands and Belgium are homes to more than 25 UNESCO sites which are definitely worth visiting. The students will practice the language in an interactive class environment, whilst at the same time learning a little about the culture of Poland and its habitants. The course is not exam-based. Through our immersive and communicative methodology, the participants can enjoy plenty of opportunities to listen to and speak the Swedish language whilst improving grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation at the same time. Topics include directions around town, transport, talking about food, time, daily routines and family. The students will keep practising the language in an interactive class environment, while learning about the culture of the Swedish-speaking world (with continuous references to Sweden, Åland Islands and Finland). There is a relaxed and supportive learning environment and the course is not exam-based. - Applicants should have completed Beginners´ Swedish at HKU SPACE OR studied around 30 hours of Swedish in any institution and provide a Certificate/ Statement of Attendance to demonstrate this. - In the absence of such evidence, external applicants should contact us for further information. Students can gain some exposure to the Swedish culture and design while having a first taste of the northern European language.
