There will be plenty of opportunities to listen and practice speaking the language whilst learning basic Spanish grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Topics include describing friends and family, everyday language around town, colours and personal characteristics. Participants will also learn a little about the culture of the Spanish- speaking world. The classroom atmosphere will be relaxed and supportive with practise in small groups using the latest interactive methodology. - Applicants should have completed Beginners Spanish OR Spanish for Travel at HKU SPACE OR studied around 30 hours of Spanish in any institution and provide a Certificate/ Statement of Attendance to demonstrate this. - In the absence of such evidence, external applicants should contact us for further information. Spanish for Travel Programme Code: SPAN9001 S 2975 5681 almond.chan@hkuspace.hku.hk This course is for complete beginners who want to learn the language basics fast in a fun way. It’s also a good way to get a taste of the language before committing to a longer course. The emphasis is on speaking and listening, rather than on grammar. Participants will see how a little language can go a long, long way. Some of the topics include introductions, numbers, telling the time, asking for the way, eating out, shopping, booking a hotel room and dealing with communication problems. The language of instruction will be Spanish with a little English where necessary. No knowledge of Spanish is required though applicants should be competent in English. It is the external examination required for the CEF reimbursement at the end of the Certificate in Spanish (Introductory). The highlights include: - All-round practices emphasising the 4 skills evaluated in the official exam: writing, reading, listening and speaking. - Experienced DELE examiner as the teacher - Training on various question types - Materials and course structure tailormade for DELE preparation - No specific entry requirement for this course. However, applicants should intend to apply for the DELE Examination Level A1. - Applicants should also be competent in English. Learning Spanish through Yoga Programme Code: SPAN9045 S 2975 5681 almond.chan@hkuspace.hku.hk This course is designed for complete beginners of the Spanish language and learners who would like to gain more exposure to the language at the A1 level according to the CEFR. The course will offer students a first taste of Spanish through yoga practices, with more focus on vocabulary, listening and speaking. Apart from general daily life topics such as self-introduction, numbers, time and body parts, students will learn some yoga-related vocabulary, which they can apply directly in the yoga practices. The yoga training includes different types of poses for beginners and meditation guided by the instructor in simple Spanish. Not only can you learn a language in an immersive way, but you also can improve your health and wellness through this integration of mental and physical exercise. Certificate in German (Introductory) Programme Code: EU002A 2975 5681 euro.info@hkuspace.hku.hk The programme is aimed at students with no previous or little knowledge of the language. It covers a range of everyday topics and situations and includes a balance of all four skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing), as well as practice on key grammar points, vocabulary and pronunciation relevant to the level. By the end of the programme, students should be able to understand and use basic everyday phrases to introduce themselves, ask and answer questions about personal details. They will also learn language to deal with everyday situations like shopping, eating out, talking about their jobs, families and interests. ​The programme is equivalent to A1 level in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Applicants shall have: - no previous or little knowledge of the language; and - sufficient English proficiency to follow simple explanations in English.
